Inspired by a Real Rescue Dog
One remarkable rescue dog inspired a mission much bigger than a children's book.
Cat Cranston is the author of The Big Adventures of Little Nola Red, a heartwarming children's book series inspired by the real-life adventures of Nola Red, a rescue dog whose courage and resilience remind children that our differences can become our greatest strengths.
Through stories celebrating kindness, acceptance, inclusion, courage, and compassion, the series also supports the work of Nola Red's Little Paws Big Steps Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to promoting children's anti-bullying and acceptance initiatives while helping provide veterinary assistance to rescue dogs in need.

Meet Cat Cranston
Cat Cranston is the author of The Big Adventures of Little Nola Red, a heartwarming children's book series inspired by the real-life adventures of Nola Red, a rescue dog whose courage and resilience became the inspiration for stories celebrating kindness, courage, acceptance, and inclusion.
Through engaging storytelling, Cat hopes to encourage children to embrace differences, practice compassion, and discover that everyone has something special to offer. Beyond the books, she founded Nola Red's Little Paws Big Steps Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting children's anti-bullying and acceptance initiatives while helping provide veterinary assistance to rescue dogs in need.
Meet Nola Red
Nola Red isn't just a storybook character—she's a real rescue dog whose courage inspired an entire children's book series.
Found as an injured stray in South Jersey, Nola Red wears a custom red leg brace that helps her stay active and enjoy life to the fullest. Her joyful spirit and determination became the inspiration for The Big Adventures of Little Nola Red, where she teaches children that our differences are not weaknesses—they are part of what makes each of us unique.
Today, Nola Red serves as the official ambassador for Nola Red's Little Paws Big Steps Foundation, helping inspire kindness, acceptance, inclusion, and compassion while raising awareness and support for rescue dogs in need. She lives in New Jersey with her sister Charli Rose and her brother Nash.

"One little rescue dog is proving that our differences can become our greatest strengths."
